“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.” Revelation 3:19
Like the church at Ephesus (2:4), the Laodicean church has lost its passion for God and his ways. He describes them as lukewarm (v.16). To compound their problems, the church thinks it’s doing well and doesn’t need a thing. However, God’s view is vastly different and he sees them as “wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked” (v.17). God desires restoration and wants them to open their hearts to him (v.20). He rebukes and disciplines them because he loves them and wants what’s best for them.
