For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil. Proverbs 5:3

In Proverbs, God’s wisdom is personified as a woman to be pursued (2:4, 3:18; 4:5). Evil is personified as an adulterous woman to be avoided. Spiritually the difference is profound. Yet evil can appear attractive, seductive and harmless. While obtaining wisdom can seem arduous, costly, and inconvenient. We avoid temptation by shielding our minds from covetous or envious thoughts and by learning contentment. God has blessed us with many good things (5:15) and “godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6).
