For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. Proverbs 24:16
This proverb recognises that calamity strikes both the wicked and the righteous. However, they respond very differently. The righteous are resilient. They bounce back. Failure isn’t final for those who trust God because they know he can restore and reverse their circumstances. They always have hope. Whereas those who don’t follow God can only wish for better circumstances. They may not have the strength or incentive to try again. One calamity may shatter their confidence and deter them from trying again.
