When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous
but terror to evildoers. Proverbs 21:15

When we see evildoers receiving justice, it’s a relief. Justice brings a sense of peace and security to a community. It means that the leaders can be relied upon to protect their people. However, it’s frightening to those who perpetrate crime, knowing that if they are found out, they will be punished. Yet we don’t celebrate our enemy’s downfall (24:17). Rather, we see their punishment as a natural outworking of God’s righteousness. We rejoice in God’s goodness, not in the grief of evildoers.
