A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:17
God doesn’t plan for people to suffer. However, we live in a broken world and broken things happen to people close to us. When people are hurting, God doesn’t want them to suffer alone. We’re called to, “rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15). Being patient with the grieving can be hard. Yet, sometimes the most loving thing we can do is to sit with people in their pain and feel their grief (see also Job 2:13).
