Melchizedek king of Salem … was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram. (Genesis 14:18-19)
David prophesied Jesus’ kingly role (Psalm 110:2) and his priestly role (v. 4). Jesus was born into the kingly line through his ancestor Judah but for Jesus to be our high priest God sent Melchizedek. “[Jesus] has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:20). Melchizedek was “without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever” (Hebrews 7:1-3). Jesus is our priest forever.
