“When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. ‘Why this waste?’ they asked.” Matthew 26:8
In John’s gospel, he identifies Judas as the speaker. Yet it was Judas who wasted his opportunity. He spent three years with Jesus but it never changed his heart. He couldn’t accept that Jesus didn’t come to establish an earthly kingdom. Judas saw this woman sacrificing her most valuable possession and her future income. He saw Jesus accepting her extravagant worship. It was too much and he betrayed Jesus. Jesus called him “the son of perdition” (John 17:12 KJV) which can mean “son of waste”.
