“At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed.” Mark 12:2-3
According to Jewish law, a property owner received produce from the tenants, even if it was only vegetables that grew between the vines, in order to retain his legal rights. By sending the servant away empty-handed, the tenants were attempting to claim the vineyard as their own. Likewise, God looks for fruit in our lives, if our lives produce nothing for him, we deny his ownership.
