The women … saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. Luke 23:55-56

There’s a significant amount of spices and perfumes connected with the death and burial of Jesus. He is anointed to prepare for his burial (Mark 14:8). Joseph and Nicodemus wrapped Jesus’ body with seventy-five pounds of spices (John 19:39). The women bring more spices and perfumes. In the Old Testament, spices and perfumes were associated with consummating a marriage (Song of Solomon). Perhaps they had a hunch Jesus’ death wasn’t the end but a beginning.
