“Jesus’ parents were amazed at what was being said about him.” Luke 2:33
Why were they amazed? They knew Jesus’ conception was extraordinary so why were they surprised by Simeon’s words. They had heard the shepherd’s story of the angels’ visit. Prior to this Mary had spent three months with Elizabeth. No doubt discussing the prophesies given by angels to herself and Zechariah. Still, Mary and Joseph, were an ordinary couple, living an apparently normal life. Only a handful of people suspected they were raising the son of God. God delights to use ordinary, humble people to fulfill his purposes.
