“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed!” Luke 12:49-50
Jesus lived in the shadow of the Cross. At the Transfiguration (Luke 9:31) his task became clearer and he “resolutely set out for Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51). Jesus didn’t avoid the Cross but boldly moved towards it. Like David who “ran quickly toward the battle line to meet Goliath” (1 Samuel 17:48), Jesus moved to defeat the enemy of our soul, disregarding the personal cost.
