“‘Unless you people see signs and wonders,’ Jesus told him, ‘you will never believe.’ The royal official said, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’” John 4:48-49
The official isn’t put off when Jesus complains about his people’s lack of faith. He doesn’t take offence or try to defend their behaviour. Instead, he continues to ask. Jesus stretches his faith by asking him to believe he can heal without being physically present. The official accepts the challenge and believes. So often, those who receive a miracle are those who aren’t put off when they don’t get an immediate positive response.
