When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. John 19:26-27
In his final hours, Jesus fulfils his responsibilities as the eldest son by providing for his mother. John is honoured with a role in Jesus’ earthly family. Jesus’ brothers aren’t present. They are not yet believers, whereas John is available for God to use. God looks for those who make themselves available to fulfil his purposes.
