“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.” Hebrews 4:9-10

We rest from the work of salvation. Jesus has achieved salvation for us and we no longer work to earn God’s acceptance. The Sabbath in Old Testament times was intended to teach the Israelites their reliance on God’s provision. We can stop working, striving, achieving and rest in what God has done for us. Now our good works aren’t a duty, obligation or burden but rather an expression of our gratitude.
