“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
“A great cloud of witnesses” aren’t spectators. They aren’t sitting in the world’s sporting arena watching to see how we perform. Rather their lives bear witness to the power of God to sustain, enable and empower them. These heroes of the faith lived before Jesus so they had less knowledge and material resources than us but often endured greater difficulties.
