“But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.” Acts 12:24   At the beginning of the chapter, Herod appears to be in control – persecuting believers, killing James, putting Peter in prison – and thereby gaining the approval of the Jews (v.3). By the end of the chapter, Herod is dead, struck down because he overstepped his authority and didn’t acknowledge God’s Sovereignty. Whereas Peter is alive and free to preach the Gospel in other places (v.17). God’s plans aren’t thwarted by the ‘Herods’ of this world. His Word will continue to spread and flourish despite the opposition of evil men.
