The Israelites say to Aaron, “Come, make us gods who will go before us.” (Exodus 32:1)

The Israelites become impatient when Moses spends a long time with God on the mountain. They insist that Aaron make them a god, just like the Egyptian gods. When Moses confronts Aaron, he admits that he asks the people for their gold jewellry but then offers a comical explanation. “I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!” (Exodus 32:24). Aaron blames the Israelites (v. 22) and isn’t honest about his failings. Bad things happen when we don’t wait for God’s timing.
