“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’” 2 Thessalonians 3:10
The book of Proverbs emphasises the value of a good work ethic and uses illustrations like the industrious ant (6:6; 30:25). Proverbs also highlights the importance of charity and helping those who are unable to work them. So Paul’s words weren’t surprising to Jewish believers. When we read the consequences of Adam and Eve’s sin, we see that while the ground was cursed, work was not. There is blessing in having a good work ethic.
