“We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also.” 2 Corinthians 6:11-13
Such was Paul’s relationship with the Corinthians that he felt comfortable asking for their affection and rebuked them when they withheld it. God doesn’t appreciate us protecting our hearts from being wounded. Instead, he wants us to open our hearts to include others, to be generous and capable of giving and receiving love.
