Full-time Christian teachers and preachers aren’t called to be completely self-sacrificing. Paul expects churches to cover the costs of itinerant missionaries and those of their spouse if they choose to come. Paul, however, chooses not to “make full use of my rights as a preacher of the gospel” (v.18) but this doesn’t mean the church should expect every visiting speaker to do the same.
