Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
RO 11:5-6 “In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice. But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.”
once again exfoliating these passages to set us free from the chains of calvinism. there is a remnant according to god’s choice. what was that choice? that those who love god freely, not under compulsion, have been predestined, called, justified, and glorified. according to grace, not works of the “good christian life.”
RO 11:30-36 “For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now have been shown mercy because of their disobedience, so these also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy. For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all. Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”

v.20 Do not be arrogant, but tremble.
It is so easy to take our salvation for granted and become arrogrant but as this verse reminds us we should be very grateful for God's kindness and mercy.

v.33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
God is mysterious – live with it!
(This is actually a line from the movie, Keeping Mum!)

v.5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
v.18 do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches.
Though we have responded to God’s grace in our lives that does not make us superior. We are recipients of grace and therefore greatly blessed but not superior.

v.11-14 Salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious…Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them.
Again Paul teaches that God uses envy to motivate people (see also 10:19).

v.22 Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.
God is both kind and stern.

From the Message:
v.30-32…In one way or another, God makes sure that we all experience what it means to be outside so that he can personally open the door and welcome us back in.
Before we can appreciate life with God we have to experience life without God.
