Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
During the week I came across this blog post about persecution and compromise in the book of Revelation. It is quite thought provoking.
In the OT the prophets often use to refer to Israel’s idolatry as adultery. So in v.4 the reference to virgins is likely to mean those who did not commit idolatry.
It is powerful imagery to use adultery as symbol for idolatry and tells us how imitiate God considers our relationship with Him.

Susan, I went to the link and read the blog on Revelation. It was well done and provided me with some great insight on differences between facing the beast and being wooed by the harlot. Thanks for sharing the link.

Thanks, inside the shrink, for dropping by.
It seems like the judgements of God (v.7) have been going on forever! Well, since chapter 6 anyway. Perhaps we underestimate God’s justice or underestimate the extent of evil on earth.

v.12 “This calls for patient endurace on the part of the people of God.” This is also in chapter 13:10 and in chapter 1:9 where John tells us that patient endurance is ours in Jesus. It is not something we have to whip up but rather something we receive from God.

Yes Susan, thanks for the link, very clarifying. I had heard and still wonder if the harlot isn’t the “church” of modern day having been corrupted and become worldly.

Chapter 14 is full of glory and worship. then at vs.8 and 9 it seems those on earth who still aren’t saved will be given a chance to worship. But for those who don’t repent
in vs 20,”They are trampled in the windpress”…where the grapes of wrath are stored.
Never knew where that came from.

v.6-7 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
The last of the last chances to hear the gospel and give allegiance to the true God.

v.15-16 Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
Jesus used the symbolism of harvest in his parables to speak of judgement and the end of the age (Matthew 13:30, 39). This symbolism is also used in the OT. After all that proceeds the harvest is quick and final.

v.13 “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”
And in the Message:
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “and blessed rest from their hard, hard work. None of what they’ve done is wasted; God blesses them for it all in the end.”
Nothing in God is wasted.

v.3 No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
Some songs can only be learnt by the redeemed.
