Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
The sixth trumphet was sounded in chapter 9:13 so there has been a gap until the seven trumpet was sounded here in chapter 11:15 and in between time we had John reaffirmed as a prophet and measuring the temple.

There seems to be differing schools of thought as to whether the two witnesses are individuals or if they represent the church. Likewise whether this passage refers just to the Jews and Jerusalem or whether it is symbolic for all believers. I really don’t know.
I think it is interesting that after the seventh trumpet it is announced that: The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and his Messiah.
God’s kingdom is visibly established whereas currently it is an invisible kingdom. We look forward to a day when following the destruction of all rebellion God’s kingdom is revealed.

v.4 refers to the “two olive trees” and there is a cross reference to Zechariah 4:14 which reads, “These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.” Or as the Message puts it, “These are the two who stand beside the Master of the whole earth and supply golden lamp oil worldwide.”

v.7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.
When they have finished their testimony – they may not have felt like they had finished the job but in God’s plan it was finished. Sometimes God takes us out of something before we think we have finished the job but we can trust God’s timing.

v.17 “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.”
It is an interesting expression – “begun to reign” why not “and now you reign”. Begun to reign sounds progressive. Perhaps God’s people play a role in enforcing God’s rule and reign.
