Psalm 91-95

November 11, 2016

Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.

  1. 91:14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name."

"Because he loves me", not because recites the law, is law abiding, is morally pure but because he voluntarily chooses to respond to the love God shows him. "We love because he first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

  3. 92:1-2 It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.

It is good to praise the Lord and make music. God's love and faithfulness are worth praising God for, regardless of what I'm going through.

  5. 93:5 Your statutes, LORD, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days

God's holiness adorns his house. Heaven is holy because of his holiness. God is altogether set apart, altogether different from us, in another realm.

  7. 94:11 The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.

God knows how ineffective our plans are. God is in charge but he does allows us some freedom. Yet our plans are in vain unless they reflect his heart.

  9. 95:10 For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’

They did not know God. Their hearts go astray because they did not know God's ways even though they saw his deeds. They didn't take the time or effort to get to know him personally. They enjoyed the blessings and benefits of the relationship that Moses had but it didn’t develop into their own relationship.
