Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
6:16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Some of these are obvious, a lying tongue, rushing into evil, shedding blood. Others are less obvious. Haughty eyes reveal a bad attitude, hearts that devises wicked schemes reveal a bad thought life. Someone who stirs up conflict may do so in subtle and non-obvious ways.
While it is easy to avoid the obvious sins, we must also watch out for the less obvious – bad attitudes, wrong thoughts, things that leads to conflict.

7:1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
God’s commands are to fill our minds and be a security against the bad thoughts that the devil drops uninvited into our thinking. Building up a deposit of good thoughts, will helps us stand against the devil’s unwanted thoughts.

8:1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
(From Constable’s Commentary) “It does not take a superior intellect to be wise in the biblical sense.”
Wisdom is available, ask for it, listen for it.

9:9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.
The wise can be instructed but not the mockers or the wicked (v. 7-8). The wise are teachable.

10:7 The name of the righteous is used in blessings, but the name of the wicked will rot.
This was true for Tamar (Ruth 4:12), whose name was used in a blessing at Ruth and Boaz’s wedding. Likewise we don’t want to use the name of those who are wicked. We don’t even want to name our children with same name as an annoying child we were at school with.
