Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
The women went to take care of the dead Jesus. To honour His dead body … which is all that they thought they had left of Him… they were possibly thinking of someway to immortalize Him. How sorely He must have been missed. Maybe a statue or something wonderful like that after the dust settled.
It is the women He showed Himself to first. Mary Magdalene being mentioned twice as the first in all four accounts … the other Mary is not mentioned once as the mother of Jesus.
And in NONE of the accounts is it noted that the apostles saw the angels … ONLY the women saw the angels. Such an honour given to them and such dishonour from the apostles to not believe their story when they told them.
Although in Mark it says they were afraid and didn’t tell anyone … hmmm…. the other accounts say they did tell them, though, and at least one of them, Peter, went to check it out … Peter is not said to have seen the angels just the empty tomb.
Lots of stuff to ponder just in the first few verses.

v.13 It is remarkable how unbelieving the disciples were. The chief priests had more faith (Matthew 27: 63)!

Reading this again I think of “in God’s time.” So many times the disciples saw truly wonderous things, and yet had little faith. I think that the true revelation of “The Truth” or the Holy Spirit decending upon them on the day of pentecost needed to be a powerful revelation unto them. That way they would continually be bound to God, and Jesus. Thus continuing the plan God had laid out.
Again, to my untrinitied mind, Jesus being on earth, had no idea of what God’s timing intentions were, and that is why he berated the apostles. My thoughts about it anyway.
But I think now I have to start handling snakes.LOL

Hey, what next, I have enjoyed getting into this. Yes it may only be the three of us, but I like the different perspectives. Also, my mother has finally gotten internet literate and think she would enjoy our weekly gathering. She normally does not make stuff, but buys good snacks at the store. Iwas gong to suggest Jeremiah as a lot of people have been quoting it lately and finding relevancy there, BUTTTT, it is 52 charters long. A years worth of study. Quite a commitment. But I am up for anything.

You’ve got to be kidding me!
Tell your Mum we would love to have her drop by.

v.7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”
Jesus had already told them in Mark 14:28 "But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."
Jesus makes and will keep his appointment, not even death will get in the way.
Perhaps Jesus wanted the disciples in Galilee to get them out of the city where it would be safer and also to spread the news of his resurrection in the area where he did most of his preaching.

v.1-2 When the Sabbath was over…Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb
These women were so committed to the Sabbath that even the death of a close friend doesn’t disturb their routine. In their minds, anointing his body wasn’t going to change the fact that Jesus was dead so waiting was perhaps not so hard, but even so, they were very committed to Jewish laws which was going to be a huge challenge for them in the future.

v.11,13 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it…These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.
The disciples really struggled to believe in Jesus’ resurrection. This explains Acts 1:3 “After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive.”
Seems they really needed many convincing proofs that he was alive. Surprising in some ways when they had seen Jesus bring Lazarus and others back to life.

v.7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter
(From Constable’s Commentary) "The Apostles may have been allowed to hear of the Resurrection before seeing the risen Christ in order that they might know from personal experience what it was to have to depend upon the testimony of others, as would be the case with their converts."
