Long Preparation, Short Performance

August 28, 2008

The Olympics has kept me from my usual book reading the last couple of weeks. This is the first Olympics in a very long time that we did not have any children at home and I found it much harder to keep up with the favourites, the Australian athletes, the number of medals etc. Still it was good to see a number of Aussies doing well and I liked the gymnastics whoever was performing.

It got me thinking about the years of preparation that go into the Olympics, and then it is all over so quickly. Makes me think that God also takes a lot of time preparing us for our role(s) in life and sometimes those roles may not last very long either; yet they are important in the larger scheme of things, but we may not realize it at the time. In fact we may never realize it this side of heaven.

  1. Hi Susan, I don’t know if you remember me. We met in New Mexico at the Glorietta Conference Center back in 2006 and I had written a fantasy novel. Found your blog today and thought I’d say hi! God is good. I’m still writing and now preparing for the release of my first book next year. How’re you?

  3. Yes, I do remember you Scott and I remember your Mum too. Great to hear your novel is getting published.

I’m still working on the book I was working on at Glorieta! Though since then I have rewritten it a hundred times (slight exaggeration!). Just recently I decided I needed some professional input so I’m having some of it copy-edited. In the meantime I have continued to write devotional thoughts, book reviews, magazine articles, and some children’s Bible stories. I have had a couple of articles accepted but nothing significant as yet. I’ve had a website for about 12 months and I’m building up a body of my work there.

Personally the last two years have been very busy. We have moved back to north-east Victoria and I’m working as a librarian (part-time). Two of my children have married and the third one is getting married early next year.

Thanks for dropping by; say hello to your Mum for me.
