Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
1:18 Only be strong and courageous
This is the fourth time in fairly short chapter that Joshua is told, be strong and courageous. Sounds like it didn't come naturally. Yet the rest of the book confirms he was.
Hope for all of us.

2:10-11 We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt…for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
This was actually 40 years after they walked through the Red Sea! Everyone knew about it and remembered. It was this, amongst other incidents, which caused Rahab to have faith.
All of Jericho had the same opportunity as Rahab to come to faith but only she responded.

3:17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.
Twice we are told they crossed on "dry ground" and perhaps this is the bigger miracle as earthquakes and mud slides have stopped the Jordan on other occasions (but not on queue).
It is also interesting that the people "hurried" (4:10)!

4:13 About forty thousand armed for battle crossed over before the Lord to the plains of Jericho for war.
They were entering the promised land dressed for war.
Often we expect a life of easy when we enter our promised land but rather we need to be prepared for conflict.

5:12 The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.
Just like that something they took for granted stopped. Now they had to find food for themselves which would require more effort. They entered the Promised Land and now had to feed themselves.
So they entered the Promised Land dressed for war and finding their own food. Life isn't always easy in the Promised Land!
