Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
26:2 How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!
For all Bildad supposed great theology, he hadn’t helped Job at all. He has not encouraged, supported or enabled Job at all. In fact, he has made Job feel worse. It is very easy to be well intentioned but uncaring and in the process make hurting people feel worse.

27:8 For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?
Even though Job was suffering he realized that he had hope whereas the godless don’t have any hope. Job was better off in his suffering than the godless were without it.
With God we always have hope.

28:23-24 God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
(From Constable’s Commentary) “Wisdom does not lie hidden in the earth but in the person of God”…“The fact that Job believed God was unjust – in his case – did not mean that he had abandoned faith in God completely.”

29:4 Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God’s intimate friendship blessed my house,
The thing that Job missed the most was intimate friendship with God. Missed this more than his wealth, possessions, health etc.

30:20 “I cry out to you, God, but you do not answer; I stand up, but you merely look at me.
(From Constable’s Commentary) "Job is desperately seeking to arouse God's sympathy for him."
Job doesn’t complain about the loss of possessions but about the loss of his reputation, his status, his good character. Did he do good just to get God’s blessings or was he genuinely compassionate? God wants us to have right motives not just right actions.
