“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him” (2 Peter 1:3).
Once our physical needs for food and shelter are met. We seek to fulfil our deeper needs for acceptance, security and significance. Only God can permanently meet these needs. He has provided, but do we accept God’s provision?
The devil will tell us many lies, that we are unlovable, unacceptable and unworthy of God’s attention. That the world is a dangerous place where there are no safe places. That our lives are meaningless and we can’t hope to make a lasting difference. But it’s up to us to believe the truth of God’s word and renounce the lies of the devil. We have a choice as to what we believe, and while it might be difficult to change our thinking, with God, all things are possible. By faith, we can accept God’s provision and know we have his acceptance. We can trust him to provide us with a sense of security in a world that isn’t safe and know that our lives have significance beyond what we can see.
Do we look to God to meet our needs for acceptance, security and significance or are we still hoping that our families, our spouses, our children, our parents or our friends will supply what only God can provide? We might expect the people in our lives to make us feel good about ourselves at the very time they are expecting the same thing from us. People are fallible, they will let us down. Family and friends are a good resource, but God alone is our Source.
