“Mum, I’m home.”
One of my goals as a parent is to provide a safe home for my children. A place where they can relax and be accepted without having to prove anything. A place where the adults will love, care and protect them. A place where they’re free to express their feelings but also able to take responsibility for their actions.
Adults need this too. Our homes ought to be safe places where we can relax, but sometimes they’re not. Many live with domestic violence or the threat of it. Our world is full of uncertainties and ever-changing expectations.
God is a safe place. We can come to God and feel welcomed and accepted. We can relax in his presence. With God, we can express our feelings and not pretend. We can receive understanding and know his love and care. “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).
The name of the Lord, speaks of his character – his faithfulness, his goodness, his compassion, his graciousness, his strength. We can run to him and know he is a safe place.
