Genesis 41-45

March 24, 2012

Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.

  1. 41:46
Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt.

Joseph was 17 when he left Israel. For thirteen years he was a slave or a prisoner then everything changed in a day.

God can change everything in a day

  3. 42:6,9
Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground…Then he remembered his dreams about them…

He remembered that in his dream 11 bowed down and here was only 10. So Joseph orchestrates events so they bring the 11th brother – Benjamin.

So Joseph was in bondage for 13 years, there were 7 years of abundance and so far 2 years of famine (45:6). It is 22 years since Joseph had his dreams.

When God gives us a dream we need to hold on to it and keep believing because God doesn't forget.

As it is, if we had not delayed, we could have gone and returned twice.

Poor Simeon waiting for his brothers to return. Poor Joseph waiting for his brothers to return. Waiting is hard!

    But God is our strength.

“Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come on my father.”

Here we see Judah's change of attitude. Perhaps Tamar's actions was a big wake up call for Judah 38:26. But anyway he is now back with the family and offering to take Benjamin's place.

Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”

LOL. Apparently not all his brothers attitudes had changed!

Imagine the brothers going home and telling their father Joseph was alive. I wonder how they explained Joseph being in Egypt?? Beware your sins will find you out!
