Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
16:11 You shall name him Ishmael, who the Lord has heard of your misery.
16:13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: You are the God who sees me.
God reveals himself as the One who hears as the One who sees, even to apparent nobodies like Hagar who was an Egyptian slave girl. This is a comfort to us that we can know that God does hear us and God does see what is going on in our lives, even if it feels like God has forgotten us, He hasn't and never will.

17:4 As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.
God outlines his part of the covenant, providing children, giving land and it seems that Abraham's part is fairly small in comparison, circumcision. However it was personal and painful!
But perhaps the real challenge for Abraham was to believe what God has told him. Sometimes the toughest part of what God asks of us is, believing when we can't see Him working.

18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord?
Sarah thought having a baby at 90 years of age was too hard for God. I don't blame her!
So often we limit God by our lack of faith. I wonder what blessings God would bring into our lives if we trusted God more?

19:16 When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.
It seems things went badly for Lot when he "pitched hhis tents near Sodom" (13:12) and even worse when "he was living in Sodom" (14:12). Yet how amazingly merciful God was to him literally dragging him out of the city despite the bad decisions he had made.
God is faithful even when I am not.

20:17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Ablimelech, his wife and his slave girls so they could have children again.
So often it is made clear in Genesis that God is the author of life. It is He who gives children. Sometimes medical science thinks it is so clever using IVF but it only works because God allows it.

Yes Susan, I have found that when IVF has failed several times….and we prayed…..folk were blessed with a babe.
My heart is sad that these folk still do not understand that this was an answer to prayer.
Trust all is well with you….I note you are still in study!

Yes, it is amazing how gracious God is, He answers prayer even though he knows it won't always be acknowledged.
Yes I continue to study – for me it is almost a hobby!
