I read this quote and really did laugh out loud because it describes some extraverts I know so well!
“One of the big mistakes Extraverts make is to assume that if someone is not engaged with another person, that individual is simply not busy. So, it’s okay to interrupt someone sitting and reading because that person is probably reading only because there is no one else with whom she can talk. You can only imagine what an Extravert thinks of someone who is sitting there not even reading but merely reflecting. Clearly that person needs to be put to some more useful task – such as listening to the Extravert’s thoughts of the moment”
Kroeger, Thuesen and Rutledge, Type Talk at Work p.97
I read that same quote in "Introverts in the Church" awhile back and wrote about it. Love it.
I live with two extroverts, and they think the best time to talk to me is when I'm reading.

I must have read the post where you quoted it though I don't remember doing so (there's a worry!).
I also read this quote in a different book to you which probably suggests that a lot of people like the quote.
I use to live with two extraverts but one grew up and left. However I did manage to teach him before he left that there were times when I was too tired to listen any more! I'm still trying to convince my other extravert that if I'm home alone it doesn't mean I'm not busy and therefore I’m actually not free to talk on the phone several times a day!

Boy do I understand you there. It's incredibly hard when trying to write, because if I'm not closed off in another room, but am typing on my computer, it seems to mean I'm not busy. I've taken to wearing headphones, sometimes even with no music, so I can ignore them.

Yeah, I've tried the headphones too. But then I get, "Sorry to interupt but…"
