Because the Lord revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time he showed me what they were doing. Jeremiah 11:18

I’ve discovered, like Jeremiah, If it would be helpful for me to know more than I’m being told, God has ways of making sure I find out. This doesn’t mean God tells me everything about a situation or the people in it. However if there’s something I need to be aware of so I can be sensitive in a particular situation, he makes sure I know. When I’ve been involved in churches and caring for others going through difficult times, it’s a comfort to know God equips me for whatever circumstances I have to face.

On the other hand, there are other times when I can’t discern what people are thinking or why they’re behaving inexplicably. Yet this simply means I don’t need to know since God hasn’t revealed it to me. Perhaps God has revealed things to others so they can help. I can continue to pray and be content knowing God is in control of all situations. I don’t have to chase after information that isn’t my concern.

Paul gives us this advice, “You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you” (1 Thessalonians 4:11). There are times to reach out to help, advise or comfort others but there are also times when we need to mind our own business and not get involved. At all times we need God’s wisdom.

When we have faith in God’s ability to reveal to us what we need to know, we can relax, confident that God is in charge and bringing about his purposes.
