Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
31:7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance.”
31:23 The Lord gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”
Twice Joshua is told to be “strong and courageous” (plus four times in Joshua 1). It’s not like he appears to lack courage as Joshua was one of the two spies who told the Israelites they were able to take the land 40 years previous. However we can lose courage as we age, plus during the years in the wilderness he may have realized what a difficult task it was, leading a people like the Israelites.

32:4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
God is pictured as a Rock. In Israel rock means bedrock all other rocks are called stones – no matter how big they are. God is our Bedrock, our security, our safe place.

33:27-28 The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, ‘Destroy them!’ So Israel will live in safety; Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew.
This is at the end of Moses’ blessing on Israel. God’s plan is that Israel lives in safety and security – and the heavens will drop dew in a land of grain and new wine. God intended to bless Israel and keep her safe but ultimately she chose other gods who could do neither. Resting in the everlasting arms of God proved too difficult for Israel.

34:10-12 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
Moses was only able to perform awesome deeds because the Lord enabled him. Yet here it sounds like they were his idea! Perhaps because he trusted God for his enablement.
Moses was a prophet, he was the leader of his people (king) and he was from a priestly tribe (priest) and sometimes acted like a priest.
