No Standing Zone is Nola Lorraine’s second 40-day devotional book. Her first one, Comfort Zone, focused on God’s fatherly care of us, whereas this book encourages us to move forward in our Christian walk even when we face difficult circumstances.
Difficulties come to us in a variety of ways. Nola highlights many biblical characters who faced tough choices and temptations. Yet they continued to trust God even though they had less historical experience than us to draw on. Nola also uses many examples from her own life, and I found these the most helpful. Her genuine and relatable honesty about her struggles gives the reader a sense of hope, regardless of the challenge.
Each devotion includes a key verse, a Bible reading, a reflection, a prayer, and questions to ponder. While designed for personal use, the devotions would also work well in a small group setting. A school year lasts 40 weeks, so using the book with a weekly group provides enough material for a year and offers the added benefit of sharing our spiritual journey with other Christians.
Like her previous devotional book, No Standing Zone is encouraging, insightful, and well written.
