I love a story that creates a dilemma, and I can’t see how it’s going to be satisfactorily resolved. Camp Max by Penny Reeve does this very well.

The story begins with Tania expecting to go to camp with her friend, Emily, plus her brother Daniel and Emily’s brother, Sam. However, Emily and Sam’s parents decided that their children’s camp money would be better spent elsewhere. A local talent show, might solve this problem because there are two camp tickets as prizes. However, in the middle of practicing for the talent show, Tania discovers her own camp registration has gone missing. No matter what happens at the talent show, there still won’t be enough tickets for everyone to get to camp. As Tania wrestles with this issue, she learns more about praying and trusting God to bring about good outcomes.

This is a well written, enjoyable story for primary school children, with a great message.
