Jonah knows God’s character, but objects to God acting this way towards the Ninevites. Yet Jonah would also know his own people were not following God’s ways, yet he still expects God to protect them from the war-loving Ninevites.

We have a God who hears. When we are heard, we’re acknowledged and validated as a person. We aren’t an invisible blob in a mass of humanity. We have worth and value. Our words matter.
It is well with my soul
John prays that his friend will enjoy good health which suggests that maybe he hasn’t been, but regardless of his friend’s health, he declares that it is well with his soul. The state of our soul isn’t dependent on our health or other outward circumstances.

During the eight years or so that David was in hiding from Saul (1 Samuel 24) he wasn’t free to travel. This meant he wasn’t able to gather with God’s people at the Tabernacle—not for the Sabbath and not for any of the festivals.
Short Devotion : Daniel
Jesus often refers to himself as “the son of man”, probably based on these verses. Daniel describes his vision, and the “son of man” clearly refers to the Messiah. He is given authority, honor, and sovereignty.

I am innocent not because I’ve never done anything wrong but because Jesus has paid my debt and God, the Just Judge, has declared me innocent. We’re also not declared innocent because we have managed to remember all our sins and sought forgiveness for each one.
