Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
v.2 "He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword."
James dies, Peter is miraculously released from jail. Sometimes it is hard to understand God's ways.

Yes, hard to understand God's ways.
Good to know we don't have to…..but just trust and obey.
Then we experience His wonderful peace'

Yes Alison, good point – we don't have to understand.
When we are utterly convinced that God is good, that He loves us unconditionally, and He is powerful enough to fix anything that needs fixing, then, we don't need to understand.

v.7-10 "Quick, get up!" he said, and the chains fell off Peter's wrists…"Put on your clothes and sandals." And Peter did so. "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me," the angel told him…and come to the iron gate…It opened for them by itself and they went through it.
Peter had to do the things he could do – get up, put on his clothes and sandals, wrapped his cloak around himself and followed. The angel did what Peter could not do – take off the chains and open the iron gate.
Likewise I have to do the things God has told me to do and trust him to do the things I cannot do.

v.12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.
The church had been praying while Peter had been sleeping! Some times we have to rest in the knowledge that others are praying.
And we pray even if we don't have enough faith for a miracle!

v.6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance.
Last time Peter was in prison he escaped so it seems Herod was making doubly sure he didn’t escape again (5:19-21).
Also last time Peter resumed preaching following his escape, this time the situation had become a lot more dangerous so Peter left Jerusalem. Tradition has it that he preached throughout the Jewish Diaspora. There are also references to Peter being in Rome, Corinth and Antioch.
