Rule 8 / Tell the truth—or, at least, don’t lie
Peterson draws on historical accounts to show the dangers of believing lies, even small lies. Once you start believing small lies, it’s a short step to believing bigger lies. This can happen to us personally if a goal is so important to us that we believe lies so we can achieve it, without considering whether it’s the best goal for our life. Peterson encourages his readers to tell themselves the truth so they will only pursue worthwhile goals.
However, what happens if we’re already deluded and don’t realize we’re chasing empty goals?
Integrity is a Christian value and Jesus tells us that he is the truth. So with Christ in our lives, we can know the truth. We can also pray for God to reveal to us any lies we unknowingly believe.
