Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
v.12 In the Message:
Anyone who wants to live all out for Christ is in for a lot of trouble; there's no getting around it.
I don't know whether to be depressed or encouraged!

v.5 Have nothing to do with such people.
Sometimes as Christians we feel we have to do everything we can to help people however there are some people we are to "have nothing to do with".

v.10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance…
I heard a preacher speak on this verse just a few weeks after I became a Christian (37 years ago!). Obviously it had a big impact on me.
The preacher's point, as I remember it was: as Paul was able to say this to Timothy, we should be able to say it to those who are around us.

v.5-7 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. …always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Some people just don’t get it! Seems like once the power of God is deny it becomes impossible to learn spiritual truths.

v. 10-11 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
The Lord rescues his people from death but sometimes he rescues them by death. Paul was eventually killed for his faith,

v. 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The aim of being taught is to be equipped. We study the Bible to learn how to live; not to cram our heads full of information.
