Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
11:1-3 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family. But Jehosheba… took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away… She put him and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah; so he was not killed. He remained hidden… for six years while Athaliah ruled the land.
Athaliah was the daughter of Ahad & Jezebel, and married into the Davidic line. If she had succeeded in killing all the royal family, as was her intention, there would not be a seed of David to produce a Saviour/Messiah. But God protected Joash.
God has ways of protecting his plans and purposes.

12:2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
It seems Joash only did what was right while Johiada was the priest.
Do we rely on others for spiritual direction or do we go to God ourselves?

13:23 But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To this day he has been unwilling to destroy them or banish them from his presence.
In the midst of their rebellion, God remained faithful to his promises. We so underestimate God's graciousness.

14:10 You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?”
Surprisingly Jehoash, king of Israel, was right in saying Amaziah, king of Judah, had become proud through defeating Edom. Therefore God allowed Amaziah to be defeated by Israel.
God really hates pride and allows people who are proud to experience significant 'falls'.

15:5 The Lord afflicted the king with leprosy until the day he died, and he lived in a separate house. Jotham the king’s son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.
2 Chron. 26:16-21 tells us it was Azariah/Uzziah's pride that lead to him being afflicted with leprosy. This banned him from the temple.
Pride keeps us from worship. However true worship will keep us from pride.
