2 Corinthians 4

June 19, 2010

Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.

  1. v.1 & v.16 we do not lose heart

An encouraging word, regardless of what happens, we do not lose heart.

Trust you have a better week, Susan!
    v.7
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this
all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
    v.16
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
    v.18
So that we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
    Amen

  5. v.17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

In the light of eternity all our troubles are "light and momentary"!!

    v.15
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thankgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

Overflow makes me think of a huge waterfall…..beyond our understanding…..awesome power!

  9. Indeed, I was listening yesterday to grace being described as, not only God's unmerited favour, but also God's enabling power.

  11. v.2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

Christians don't need to resort to using deception or manipulation. All we need to do is present the Word and let God do the rest.

  13. v.7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

People are suppose to see God working through me. They are not suppose to see me trying hard to be a Christian.
