Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
1:6 (His father had never rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)
"Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time" (NLT)
What! David never disciplined his son?
And since Adonijah had never been discipline he felt he could do as he pleased and take over as king despite the fact that God had given that role to Solomon. But God's plans were not thwarted.

2:15-17 “As you know,” he said, “the kingdom was mine. All Israel looked to me as their king. But things changed, and the kingdom has gone to my brother; for it has come to him from the LORD. Now I have one request to make of you…give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife.
Abishag was effectively David's wife. If Adonijah married her he was "taking possession of the harem of a deceased king [which] was equivalent to the establishment of the claim to the throne." Solomon correctly regarded Ajonijah's request was an act of treason worth of death" (Constable's Commentary).
Adonijah was so use to getting his own way that he tried again with deadly results. All the while he knew the Lord had given the kingdom to his brother.

3:3 Solomon showed his love for the LORD by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.
We show our love for the Lord by living according to his instructions not by our ability to say the right thing. It's about our actions not just words.

4:20 The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy.
Why didn't they realize that their happiness came from living God's way and continue living that way?

5:12 The Lord gave Solomon wisdom, just as he had promised him. There were peaceful relations between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.
Later Solomon would write: "When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them" (Proverbs 16:7). This was certainly true of Solomon. Instead of having to re-establish his military strengthen after David's death, God gave him pace on all sides so he could concentrate on building the temple.
