1 Corinthians 14
Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.

v.17 You are giving thanks well enough, but the others are not edified.
Paul expects that our thanksgiving will edify others. It is not some thing that I've thought about before but it happens. When you hear someone giving thanks to God for something that has happened in their life you feel encouraged as well.
v.3 But those who prophesy speak to people for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.
Our aim in speaking out God's Word is to strengthen, encourage and comfort.
v.12 try to excel in gifts that build up the church
It is not about us using our gifts but rather it is about building up others.
v34-35 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
At first glance this seems to contradict 11:5 "every woman who prays or prophesies" so obviously women did speak in church. If we notice the context these verses are refering to good order in worship services and refer to inappropriate speech. Perhaps calling out questions and being disruptive. Women were not educated in this culture so it is likely they did have many questions but this was not the appropriate forum to get answers.
v.25 So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”
Wouldn't it be great if unbelievers walked into our churches and responded like this!
