Here’s how the study works: Read the chapter mentioned in the heading several times during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for a chapter creates the opportunity to reread it several times and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
I've always had trouble with the head covering for women in the church. I'm conflicted, rather than contentious, as to whether this is a cultural thing or if this is a mandate to men and women for all time. In the Jewish culture during Bible times, the dress for people was very different. Men didn't even wear pants. So are we all to dress as they did then? I know there are some who still follow this practice. I am respectful of their obedience. The Lord is still working with me on that one.
v.27 is striking to me. The Lord's Supper, Communion as it is sometimes called, is so very sacred. I do believe some partake in this so often, it becomes rote. I am aware that I am on Holy Ground when I participate in the time of communion. I know I have to examine myself, not my husband, not my neighbor, not my co-worker, not the preacher, but myself. There is a serious consequence for receiving the elements in an unworthy manner.

Interesting comments Inside The Shrink….thankyou
I feel sure our Lord's love covers us for not understanding fully the 'head covering' part! I am not sure about that in this day either.
I agree with v27….to examine our selves…..not so sure that folk always 'get' this part of scripture?
Enjoy your day!

Actually the thing I found interesting was that Paul assumed women would pray and prophesy (v.5).
I find literal head covering a cultural thing. I think we need to look at what message the outward sign of head covering was pointing towards which is about being submissive to each other and to the Lord.
Also our clothes say a lot about us and we need to be aware of what message we send via our clothing.

The instructions regarding the Lord's Supper make me think that the people Paul was addressing were very rude! (v.21) It's hard to imagine.
I think we must make an effort for communion not to become routine. Mostly it is up to the individual to focus on, and be overwhelmed by the sacrifice God has made for us.

The word "head" in the NT can, and often does mean "source" rather than "authority" which explains why v.8-9 are included at this point.
v.10 Says to me – don't forget where you come from and whose you are. We belong to God and we need to act like it and not show off or bring attention to ourselves.

A word about angels v.10 again from a commentary (Constable):
"Why did Paul introduce angels into this discussion? Perhaps the Corinthian women needed to wear a head-covering because angels observe with great interest what is taking place among God's people as we worship (Eph. 3:10). Angels are the guardians of God's created order, they are submissive to God, and they too praise God. For other people to see Christian women unveiled was bad enough because it was a sign of insubordination, but for angels to see it would be worse. They would really be offended!"

This chapter, more than most has me reaching for the commentary (Constable). So here are some further thoughts on head covering:
"It was a shameful thing for a woman not to cover her head in the early New Testament churches. Such an act made a statement that she was repudiating her position as a woman or that she was an immoral woman."
By not covering their heads these women were drawing attention to themselves for all the wrong reasons. They were acting like men, when God had called them to be women.
Also Paul wanted women to cover their heads because it was culturally acceptable. He didn't want them giving the gospel a bad name because of what they wore or didn't wear.
