Here’s how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people’s insights.
26:4-8 Obed-Edom also had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sakar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth, Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh and Peullethai the eighth. (For God had blessed Obed-Edom.) Obed-Edom’s son Shemaiah also had sons, who were leaders in their father’s family because they were very capable men. The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad; his relatives Elihu and Semakiah were also able men. All these were descendants of Obed-Edom; they and their sons and their relatives were capable men with the strength to do the work—descendants of Obed-Edom, 62 in all.
God did indeed bless Obed-Edom. He chased after God’s blessing (Ch. 16) and the blessing on his life continued through many generations. He had a good heart attitude of serving God, honouring God, and wanting to be in his Presence.

27:23-24 David did not take the number of the men twenty years old or less, because the Lord had promised to make Israel as numerous as the stars in the sky. Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. God’s wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David.
David didn’t count the men less than 20 years old. His purpose was military, and perhaps he appeased his conscious by not counting the under-20’s. Joab, under David’s orders counted, but did not finish because he was repulsed (21:6). David did the wrong thing so the final numbers were not recorded.
We need to trust God, not count our own resources, or count on our own resources.

28:11-12 Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its storerooms, its upper parts, its inner rooms and the place of atonement. He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the Lord and all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the temple of God and for the treasuries for the dedicated things.
28:19 “All this,” David said, “I have in writing as a result of the Lord’s hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.”
God gave David a detailed plan for the temple and its services (v. 13-18). He also gave David the ability to understand. God is able to let us know all we need to know, even to building plans and rosters.

29:22 They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the Lord that day.
Such joy in this chapter and David wanted it to go on forever – he prayed: “Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”
But this didn’t happen. God doesn’t override free will. We choose the desires and thoughts we keep in our hearts, we choose to be loyal, we choose wholehearted devotion. God does not take our choices from us.
