10 Things I Hate About God

Have you ever said, "If I were God, I would…"? Often we struggle to understand the way God runs the world. We may even think we could do a better job. Certainly we would do it differently. Often we find God unpredictable and unmanageable. We don't understand God's apparent lack of intervention in a world that desperately needs fixing. Why doesn't God do something? He seems reluctant to get involved. We feel ambivalent towards God because we are never quite sure if he is going to come through for us. So after initially experiencing God's love and forgiveness, we may find ourselves putting up barriers to protect ourselves from a God we do not understand. If this is how you feel then this book is for you.
My book, 10 Things I Hate About God takes a theological subject, the sovereignty of God, and explores its impact in the every day routines of life. Thus demystifying the subject and making its implications relevant to everyone and not just those academically inclined. The book invites the reader to experience God in a more honest and authentic way. It looks at why we sometimes resist grace, love and those aspects of God's character which we should embrace. 10 Things allows us to acknowledge our struggle with a God who allows suffering without explanation; a God who refuses to stop pursuing us, or let us repay him for our debts; a God who on one hand often makes us wait, yet at other times expects us to act before we're ready; a God who wants us to commit to his family, but not be committed to things of this world; and a God who is more involved in our personal lives than we would like to admit.
Here's an opportunity to look at God through a new window of understanding. Where you are free to be completely honest about how you feel about God. Where you can express your disbelief, frustration or disappointment with a God who does not answer your prayers to your satisfaction. This book takes us beyond explanations that seek to dumb down either believers or God himself. God is often portrayed as either an overly strict authority figure or a pathetically benevolent Santa Claus character; neither do justice to the incredible holiness of God, or to his passionate love for people. We may not like the way God chooses to run his world but we can come to grips with a God who is more loving than we know how to cope with, and more merciful than we can handle.
